Philippines to host Fiba World Cup Asian Qualifiers anew

MANILA, Philippines—Gilas Pilipinas will get a much-needed boost anew in the sixth and final window of the 2027 Fiba World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

The Fiba Executive Committee announced that the Philippines will host the last stop of the qualifiers set in February before the World Cup in Doha, Qatar.

The development came after the country’s successful hosting of the fourth window that saw Gilas pick up crucial victories over Jordan on August 28 and Iran two days later to breathe life into its World Cup bid.

In the final window, the Nationals will again play Jordan on February 25 before taking on Syria on Feb. 28.

Fiba also announced that Malaysia will serve as the neutral ground for the fifth window in November, which has Gilas battling Syria and Iran.

Following the home sweep, the Philippines (4-4) moved to only a game behind Iran and Jordan in Group E standings. Iran and Jordan are tied in third with similar 5-3 slates.

The top three teams earn outright World Cup slots, while the best fourth-placed squad between Group E and F also qualifies.
