MANILA, Philippines — Young artist Joaquin Arce discussed his relationship with stepmother Angel Locsin, whom one day he hopes to act in a project with once he's earned the right to do so.
Joaquin appeared on the March 13 episode of "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" alongside his "Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab 2.0" housemates Princess Aliyah, Ashley Sarmiento and Miguel Vergara.
After participating in the titular segment, Boy noted that Angel came out of her social media hiatus to express her support for Joaquin, son of Angel's husband Neil Arce with beauty queen Sunshine Samson.
The rising star described Angel as his second mom and mentor who always gives him life advice, after being asked by Boy what his relationship with Angel was like.
"Grabe 'yung nag-stop siya ng hiatus para lang to defend me, pinagtanggol ako ni Darna!" Joaquin said with a smile, referencing one of Angel's most iconic roles. "I'm so grateful for her and I really couldn't have done it without her."
Boy recalled in a past interview that Joaquin didn't just consider Angel a second mother but being a fan of hers, which Joaquin confirmed, then the television host asked if Joaquin ever saw himself doing a movie with Angel.
Joaquin answered in the affirmative with keen intentions, though he clarified he wants to "deserve" acting in a movie with his stepmother.
"I feel like I have to deserve to work with her because she's the best," Joaquin explained. "I can't act with the best unless I am along those lines... I want to work to that point."
Boy praised Joaquin for his humility before ending their part of the interview by jokingly advising him to take care of "Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab 2.0" winner and fellow Star Magic artist Lella Ford.
Lella, the youngest daughter of actress Karla Estrada, won the reality competition series alongside Sparkle artist Caprice Cayetano.
Angel has not acted full-time since the 2019 series "The General's Daughter." She hosted the public show "Iba Yan" early in the COVID-19 pandemic and had cameo appearances in "Block Z" and "Four Sisters Before the Wedding" (all in 2020). — Video from GMA Network's YouTube channel
