MANILA, Philippines — Filipino students brought home 22 medals from the 2024 International Mathematics Assessment for Schools (IMAS) competition.
The Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG) of the Philippines said students brought home three gold medals, three silvers and 16 bronzes, emerging as top scorers in the global math tilt.
Students who won gold were Nathan Gohok of New Life Christian Academy, Heal Job Esio of Pangasinan Universal Institute and Shaun Lawrence Poh Leung of St. Stephen’s High School.
The silver medalists were Liam Reign Chuco of New Life Christian Academy, Samantha Casey Mallari of Taguig Integrated School and Nathan Gabriel Neriag of Grace Christian College.
Meanwhile, those who brought home bronze included Anne Dorothy Madrazo of Timoteo Paez Elementary School, Alistair Ivan Siohingco of St. Jude Catholic School, Alexandra Mierielle Benigay of Peniel Integrated Christian Academy, Sabrina Louis Cheong of Zamboanga Chong Hua High School, Heintl Esio of Pangasinan Universal Institute, Ethan Liam Go and Albert Stephen Tan of St. Jude Catholic School, Wyumi Gianina Ng of Grace Christian College, Annette Tiffany Yu of St. John’s Institute, Andrew Lorenz Cabigon of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, Ian Gabriel Hong of Pace Academy, Faith Caitlin Ng of MGC New Life Christian Academy and Grace Christian College students Jayden Andrew Cobiandal, Jared Cobe Ng, Wynshanelle Ng and Janet Caryl Ng.
The medals were awarded last Feb. 15 at the Philippine Cultural College main campus in Manila.
MTG head Simon Chua said 350 Filipino students participated in the IMAS contest last year.
The online IMAS was conducted early last year by the Taipei-based Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation.
