MANILA, Philippines — The online marketplace of telco leader PLDT Inc. is gaining momentum in adding more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to its user base, lifted by efforts to expand its service portfolio, such as with flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) soon.

PLDT Global Corp. chief operating officer Edith Gomez-Cudiamat yesterday said the Tindahan ni Bossing (TINBO) app has so far picked up almost 500,000 users worldwide.

She said the platform is having success particularly in the Middle East, where there are about 2.5 million OFWs deployed in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, among others.

“TINBO right now is nearly reaching half a million user base across the globe, (with the) Middle East being our strongest base. We are bringing most of them into the app,” Gomez-Cudiamat said in an interview on “Money Talks” on One News.

She expects more OFWs to hop on TINBO as soon as it signs its partnership with PAL. The app is integrating PAL’s frequent flyer program Mabuhay Miles this year following the success of the partnership between PLDT Global and the airline.

“A collaboration with PAL is upcoming, and we are bringing the Mabuhay Miles integration into the TINBO app this year,” Gomez-Cudiamat said.

Last month, PLDT Global and PAL teamed up in bringing Filipino celebrities such as Vic Sotto, Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola for a festival that entertained OFWs in Hong Kong.

PAL is one of the strongest carriers bridging Manila and Hong Kong, offering four flights daily to one of the most popular destinations for Filipinos, both tourists and workers.

As for OFWs in conflict zones like Iran and Israel, Gomez-Cudiamat said TINBO can be used to generate a virtual number for Smart Communications Inc. Afterward, OFWs can make free calls to state agencies such as the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration through its hotline 1348.

As both of them are under PLDT, TINBO is working with Smart in expanding their partnership with agencies and groups promoting OFW welfare. In particular, they want to widen the reach of their free call service for OFWs in times of emergencies.

TINBO is a digital marketplace where OFWs can buy load, pay bills and send vouchers to their families at home.

The platform, operated by PLDT Global, also develops products and solutions that address some of the pain points in the OFW journey.
