MANILA, Philippines — Focus crimes nationwide declined by 24.32 percent in January compared to the same period last year, the Philippine National Police reported yesterday.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said data from the crime information, reporting and analysis system showed 2,449 focus crimes recorded from Jan. 1 to 31, down from the 3,236 cases in January 2025.
Focus crimes refer to offenses against people and properties and include murder, homicide, rape, robbery and carnapping.
Nartatez attributed the decline to the effective use of police resources, enhanced police operations and stronger community involvement.
“Our agenda is to ensure that all resources, including human resources, are maximized, supported by good police operations and active community participation,” he said.
