PNP deploys over 56,000 police for New Year's Eve

MANILA, Philippines — More than 56,000 policemen were deployed for the celebration of New Year’s Eve, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said. 

In a statement on Monday, December 29, the PNP said that a total of 56,785 personnel have been deployed nationwide. 

According to the PNP, the deployment includes:

  • 33,020 regular police officers
  • 4,968 augmentation units from specialized divisions
  • 18,797 members of community advocacy groups

These PNP said that the teams are stationed in high-traffic zones, including transport terminals, commercial hubs, coastal areas, and residential neighborhoods. 

Police Assistance Desks have also been activated nationwide to provide immediate emergency response and traveler assistance.

Confiscated pyrotechnics. The PNP also said that it seized 79,953 pieces of illegal firecrackers, valued at approximately P1,224,909 as of December 28. 

To offer safer alternatives, local government units have established the following:

  • 765 firecracker zones: Dedicated areas for the regulated sale of legal fireworks, monitored by 1,655 personnel.
  • 741 Community Fireworks Display Areas: Safe public spaces for viewing fireworks, staffed by 1,992 personnel.

For motorists. In addition to regulating firecrackers, the PNP has increased the number of checkpoints and patrols to discourage crime and maintain road safety during the holiday travel surge. 

To support this, over 11,000 personnel—comprising nearly 9,000 police officers along with augmentation units and advocacy groups—have been stationed at motorist assistance hubs across the country to guide and assist travelers, according to the PNP.
