LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Cordillera police confirmed the identity of former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) undersecretary Ma. Catalina Cabral following the results of an autopsy conducted Saturday.

Lt. Col. Roy Augustus Calulot, spokesperson of the Cordillera police, said the examination conducted at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, showed that the remains of the female retrieved from Kennon Road on Thursday night belong to Cabral.

DNA examination has yet to proceed, pending orders from higher authorities, Calulot added.

The confirmation through autopsy provided greater clarity to the case, allowing authorities to move forward with a more thorough investigation.

Sources said the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has lifted its relief order against Benguet police director Col. Lambert Suerte after he successfully negotiated with Cabral’s family to allow the autopsy, which they had earlier refused.

Tuba police chief Major Peter Camsol, however, was relieved by DILG Secretary Juanito Victor "Jonvic" Remulla on Friday, after initially facing possible relief along with Suerte if the family’s consent had not been secured.
