BOCAUE, Bulacan, Philippines — Police and local government officials inspected the pyrotechnics stalls here yesterday to ensure that the fireworks for sale are compliant with safety standards.

Acting Philippine National Police chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., along with Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando and other local officials, urged the fireworks dealers to strictly follow laws and regulations on the sale of pyrotechnics this season.

Nartatez reminded the public to avoid the use of prohibited firecrackers during the Christmas and New Year revelries.

Fernando, who also heads the Pyrotechnics Regulatory Board of Bulacan, stressed that firecrackers and fireworks products are not prohibited by law, but are strictly regulated.

The inspection was made to ensure compliance with safety standards set under Republic Act 7183 or the law regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
