THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) continues to mobilize its resources to assist affected communities in Negros Occidental following the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon on April 8.
The agency focused its immediate relief in Barangay Aral-al, which experienced severe volcanic ashfall for more than one hour.
The ashfall resulted in severely reduced road visibility in Barangay Ara-al, one of the 14 villages in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
The PRC Negros Occidental-Bacolod City Chapter, working closely with its La Carlota City Branch, deployed a water tanker and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) team to deliver clean and safe drinking water to residents.
In addition to potable water, volunteers and staff also distributed jerry cans to help families store water safely, as well as face masks to protect against the respiratory risks posed by ashfall.

RC143 volunteers on the ground reported that roads in the area are heavily blanketed with volcanic ash.
"The safety and well-being of affected communities remain our top priority," the PRC said in a statement.
"Our teams continue to provide life-saving support in the face of this emergency," the PRC added, stressing that the response is part of its ongoing disaster relief operations since Mt. Kanlaon's initial eruption in December last year.
The agency said it maintained a steady presence in the region to ensure continuous access to clean water and essential aid.
"As we face this renewed threat from Mt. Kanlaon, the Philippine Red Cross reaffirms its commitment to leave no one behind," it said.
