MANILA, Philippines — Mothers are the light and foundation of every Filipino home, President Marcos said yesterday.
“With your nurturing care, patience and incomparable love, our homes, communities and nation are becoming more resilient,” Marcos said on Mother’s Day.
Photos of First Lady Liza Marcos, former first lady Imelda Marcos and his sister Irene accompanied the President’s Facebook post.
The Chief Executive thanked his wife, saying, “Our boys could not have asked for a more loving mother and I could not have asked for a better partner to walk through life with.”
Mother’s Day is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of May.
Vice President Sara Duterte, who is facing impeachment proceedings for alleged misuse of funds, praised mothers working overseas.
“We know that sacrifice is not always about physical presence. Sometimes, the greatest sacrifice is the distance you endure to provide for your family,” she said.
Duterte went to The Hague, Netherlands to visit her detained father, who will face trial for crimes against humanity.
Meanwhile, police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. thanked uniformed mothers, as well as the mothers of police officers, for their “unwavering support, understanding and courage.” — Evelyn Macairan, Mark Ernest Villeza
