MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos thanked the members of the Presidential Security Command for their service, citing the PSC’s crucial role not just in protecting the First Family, but also in maintaining the country’s stability.

In a speech during the PSC’s 128th anniversary in Malacañang Park on Friday, Marcos said the sense of security provided by the troops protecting him allows him to think clearly and do the work Filipinos expect him to perform.

“I feel at ease during engagement because we know that you are there. You are the eyes that never stop moving, even as mine are free to look ahead,” the President said.

Marcos said he takes seriously and carries with deep gratitude the sacrifice involved in the constant presence of the PSC, which also secures the institutions that keep democracy strong and the republic stable.

“While we sleep soundly in our beds at night, you’re awake, missing precious time with your loved ones, working to ensure that my family and I remain safe. So, thank you for not only protecting me, but protecting the institution I represent and in doing so, the Filipino people that we all serve,” he said.

Noting that the mission of the PSC has evolved, Marcos said the government has upgraded the command’s capabilities to make it more capable to respond to any threat or challenge.

“I can see that we have made some very good advances and that I think that the PSC now is a much, much more capable unit than it was when we first started,” he said.

Marcos also mentioned the improvement of the PSC facilities, which was undertaken with the help of First Lady Liza Marcos.

The First Lady also expressed gratitude to the PSC in a Facebook post on Saturday.

“From our family to yours, thank you for your service. Your dedication to protecting the presidency and serving the Filipino people is a responsibility you carry with courage and honor each day,” she said.

The PSC started from a ragtag squad formed by Emilio Aguinaldo in March 1897 when he was elected president of the revolutionary government.

The elite troops securing President Marcos and his family was upgraded from the Presidential Security Group to the PSC in 2023. The command is being led by Rear Admiral Andro Val Abayon.
