MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has vowed to be “very, very strict” in assessing the performance of government officials, saying those who failed to deliver should be removed from their posts.
In a video teaser for the second episode of his podcast, Marcos noted that in the military, those who fail to perform their tasks are relieved from their positions.
“And that’s what we should do. We have to be very, very strict,” the President said in the 42-second teaser video uploaded to his social media accounts yesterday.
“Look, even if you are my friend, I love you and all, but if you are not doing your job, it is not about friendship or our love for each other, but the service for the people,” he added.
Last month, Marcos directed Cabinet members to submit their courtesy resignations in line with a performance review that also covers officials with lower ranks, heads of agencies and state-run firms.
The assessment, which forms part of what Malacañang calls a “bold reset,” is meant to improve the quality of government services and to address the concerns of Filipinos, officials said.
Last week, Marcos said all officials are essentially on probation and that he is planning to conduct a quarterly performance review to check if agencies are achieving their targets. He added that the assessment is not a revamp, but an ongoing process aimed at ensuring that the government would do better in performing its mandate.
Malacañang has so far announced three tranches of leadership movements, although most of the Cabinet members were allowed to remain in their posts.
The second episode of Marcos’ podcast is expected to be released today through his social media platforms. Its first episode aired last month.
