MANILA, Philippines — Prices of kerosene and diesel products are expected to ease on Tuesday, June 16 while gasoline prices may either increase or decrease, according to the latest announcement by the energy department.

Here are the price adjustments announced by the Department of Energy:

  • Diesel - P3.71- P5.71 rollback per liter
  • Kerosene - P0.50 - P2.50 rollback per liter
  • Gasoline - may either go up by P1.68 or rollback by P0.32 per liter

This is the second week that the energy department released a range for price adjustments, giving the fuel retailers the liberty to choose how they would apply these changes.

The adjustments, according to the DOE, are still driven by developments in the West Asia conflict, which continues to affect the global oil market.

Here are the price estimate for June 16-22:

Pre-war prices?

Energy Undersecretary Alessandro Sales said there is a chance that oil and fuel prices in the Philippines may return to pre-war levels, or around P50 to P60 per liter, but only after six to 12 months.

This came after the United States and Iran agreed to a peace deal that is expected to end the almost four-month conflict in West Asia, which disrupted the oil supply chain.

According to Sales, however, pre-war fuel prices will not return immediately even if the peace deal succeeds, as oil facilities and the global supply chain will also need time to restart.

“It’s really just an issue of restarting the supply that was disrupted by the war. Return of supply is not instantaneous,” Sales said.
