ILOILO CITY — Following the murder of a Slovakian tourist earlier this March, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has bolstered the security measures in the world-renowned Boracay Island in Aklan.
The PRO-6 has officially launched the Boracay Anti-Vice Unit (BAVU) to ensure the safety of tourists, particularly in anticipation of the influx during the Holy Week and summer season.
The BAVU is a specialized 22-member team dedicated to anti-criminality and intelligence operations on Boracay Island.
Its primary mission is to identify and neutralize criminal threats, with a particular focus on combating illegal drug activities.
This unit will augment the existing forces of the Malay Municipal Police Station by concentrating on proactive intelligence gathering and targeted operations, while local police continue to maintain regular patrols and visibility.

The send-off ceremony was held on March 31 at Camp Pastor Martelino, Barangay New Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan.
PRO-6 director BGen. Jack Wanky emphasized that the establishment of the BAVU is a proactive and strategic response to combat illegal activities and ensure the safety and security of Boracay during the peak tourist season.
"This initiative of the PRO-6 is a proactive and strategic response to combat illegal activities and to ensure the safety and security of Boracay during the high influx Holy Week and summer vacation," he said.
