Finally, after several abortive attempts in the past (which included political pressure), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was able to rationalize the period of engagement of independent directors (ID) in publicly listed companies. In a recent memorandum circular, the SEC barred, effective Feb. 1, IDs who have already served for the maximum cumulative period
