MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) has secured the highest issuer credit rating from Philippine Rating Services Corp. (PhilRatings), reflecting its strong market position, healthy capitalization and sound asset quality.
In a statement, PhilRatings said it assigned PSBank a PRS Aaa (corp.) issuer credit rating with a stable outlook. The stable outlook indicates that PSBank’s credit rating is likely to remain unchanged over the next 12 months.
An issuer credit rating measures a company’s ability to meet its financial obligations, including debt repayments. The PRS Aaa (corp.) grade is the highest rating on PhilRatings’ domestic corporate credit rating scale.
According to the rating agency, companies with this rating have a “very strong capacity to meet its financial commitments relative to that of other Philippine corporates.”
PhilRatings said the rating was supported by PSBank’s solid market position, sound capitalization and asset quality, as well as its strong parent company and experienced management team.
PSBank, the consumer and retail-banking arm of the Ty-led Metrobank Group, remained the country’s largest thrift bank in terms of assets as of end-June, based on data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
The rating agency also cited the bank’s reported year-end assets of P232 billion and capital of P44.2 billion, although it did not specify the year covered by these figures.
PSBank has maintained a significant presence in the consumer banking market, particularly in auto and real estate lending, which account for a substantial share of the thrift banking industry’s loan portfolio.
PhilRatings also highlighted the backing of Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co. (Metrobank), which held an 88.4-percent equity stake in PSBank as of end-June.
Metrobank is one of the country’s largest universal banks, providing PSBank with the support of an established banking group.
PhilRatings said its assessment was based on available information and projections at the time the rating was assigned.
