MANILA, Philippines — The local stock market soared to its highest level so far this year, successfully climbing its way back to the 6,500 level to stretch its winning streak to five sessions.
The bellwether Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) rose by 0.92 percent or 59.47 points to cap off yesterday’s session at 6,547.98.
The last time the PSEi finished above the 6,500 mark was in July 14, 2025 when it closed at 6,525.04.
Likewise, the broader All Shares index advanced by 0.64 percent or 22.86 points to settle at 3,614.47.
“The PSEi closed above 6,500 for the first time this year, marking a fresh year-to-date high as continued peso strength at P57.8 fueled another sizable wave of foreign buying,” AB Capital Securities Inc. said.
AB Capital said that net foreign inflows extended to a third straight session, each exceeding P300 million.
All counters were in the positive territory, except for property, which inched down by 0.41 percent.
The services index was the biggest gainer with a 2.18-percent jump, followed by industrial, which grew by 1.48 percent.
Trading was strong as total turnover value expanded to P8.07 billion from the previous day’s P6.12 billion.
Advancers edged out decliners in a tight contest, 100 to 98, while 74 issues were unchanged.
ICTSI remained as the session’s top traded stock, soaring by 3.27 percent to P694 per share, followed by BDO Unibank and Ayala Land which fell by 1.59 percent and 5.08 percent, respectively, to P136.10 and P20.55.
Asian markets were mixed yesterday as investors weighed fresh AI fears and the US Supreme Court’s decision to strike down a large part of Donald Trump’s tariff policy.
