MANILA, Philippines — More tollway operators will provide toll discounts to public utility vehicles (PUVs) including traditional and modern jeepneys, buses and freight vehicles starting March 23, according to the Department of Transportation.

The new expressways with discounted toll rates include the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX), R1 Expressway Extension, Muntinlupa Cavite Expressway, and Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).

Qualified PUVs may save up to P66 for Class 1 public utility jeepneys (PUJs); P131 for Class 2 public utility buses (PUBs) and modern jeepneys; and up to P197 for Class 3 large trucks.

Toll rebate programs

The Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), with its joint-venture partners, will be extending the KaBiyahe Rebate Program at SCTEX and CAVITEX.

Qualified Class 2 and 3 vehicles can avail of the program for two months from March 23 to May 22 for all passages along North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), SCTEX, and CAVITEX R1 Expressway and R1-Expressway Extension.

The rebates will roll back toll rates to their levels prior to the most recent adjustment.

Class 3 vehicles must be valid Easytrip subscribers in good standing with sufficient load; not enrolled in any other toll rebate or discount programs on MPTC expressways, such as the Toll Exemption for agricultural trucks.

Class 2 vehicles must enroll in the KaBiyahe program by emailing required documents to [email protected], be accredited operators registered with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board; and be an Easytrip pre-paid account subscriber in good standing with sufficient load.

Qualified transport owners with any citation or traffic violation during the program period will be excluded from the rebate program.

Class 1 PUJs operating along the northern routes will continue to benefit from the PASSADA Program.

For CAVITEX, the Abante Program will be reactivated for two months, which allows those currently enrolled in the program to get rebates equivalent to the difference between the new rates and the rate prior to the latest toll adjustment.

Transportation chief Giovanni Lopez thanked the toll operators for the initiative, which will provide immediate relief to transport stakeholders and commuters for an initial period of two months, and may be extended subject to review.

“We are grateful to the toll operators because these discounts are a great help for our PUV drivers. We know the hardships that those in the transport sector face every day,” Lopez said.

The toll discounts, which will be implemented through a rebate mechanism, will apply to qualified vehicles and will be credited on a weekly basis.
