PVL: Creamline outlasts Farm Fresh in five sets to stay unbeaten

MANILA, Philippines — Creamline continued to turn to the duo of Jema Galanza and Jaja Santiago-Minowa as it survived Farm Fresh in five sets, 25-18, 24-26, 25-22, 23-25, 15-4, to inch closer to the PVL Invitational final on Thursday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

With the Cool Smashers dragged to the first decider of the tournament, Minowa flaunted her dominance and nailed all three of her blocks in the fifth set for a 10-1 start, which included a pair of blocks and a clutch spike from Galanza.

Mylene Paat-Rezanova stopped the bleeding for Farm Fresh, which cut the deficit to 12-4 after two kills from Tubino. But Galanza nailed back-to-back spikes before Tots Carlos delivered the game-winning hit to end the game in two hours and 29 minutes.

Galanza lifted Creamline to 26 points, scoring five in the fifth set. She also finished with 22 kills, two blocks, and a pair of aces on top of 18 excellent receptions and 11 digs.

The Cool Smashers stayed unbeaten in three games, and they look to clinch a finals ticket against EST Cola of Thailand on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Minowa had 17 points from 14 kills and three blocks. Carlos and captain Alyssa Valdez had 12 points each, while Kyle Negrito had 22 excellent sets on top of eight points.

Farm Fresh dropped back-to-back games with a 1-2 record, facing PLDT on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Ces Molina’s 27-point explosion and 17-dig game went for naught. Trisha Tubu and Royse Tubino had 19 each.
