MANILA, Philippines — Reigning MVP Savi Davison erupted for 30 points as defending champion PLDT turned back Thailand’s EST Cola, 25-23, 25-14, 26-28, 25-14, to kick off its PVL Invitational Conference title defense on a high note on Monday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Davison unleashed 24 kills, five blocks, and an ace in the match that lasted an hour and 56 minutes.
Mika Reyes delivered 16 points off 10 kills and six of PLDT’s 14 kill blocks. Jovie Prado had nine points, 21 digs, and 13 excellent receptions. Kianna Dy and Majoy Baron had eight and seven points, respectively.

Kim Fajardo had 29 excellent sets, while Kath Arado tallied 26 digs and 12 receptions.
“Our first assignment was definitely very challenging, especially because when we have guest teams, we usually watch them first and study how they play,” said PLDT coach Rald Ricafort.
“This time, we didn’t have much information about them, so we were a bit blind in our preparation. We just focused on our own game, and we’re happy with how the players performed.”
EST Cola turned to Nirarach Srikuta in the third to avoid getting swept, as she nailed the clutch spikes to take three set points before sealing the frame with an ace.
Davison regained her rhythm in the fourth to wrap up the game and move forward to their next match against the Nxled Chameleons on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
EST Cola, a returning guest team after participating in 2024, dropped its first game, with Srikuta leading the way with 14 points. Nannaphat Moonjakham had 12, while their captain Hantima Aekpatcha had eight points before spraining her right ankle in the second set.
The Thai club, composed of national team second-stringers, takes on Farm Fresh on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
