MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Kalamansig town in Sultan Kudarat yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the temblor occurred at 3 a.m., with its epicenter located 43 kilometers south-southwest of Kalamansig.
The quake was felt at Intensity 4 in Kalamansig and Intensity 3 in Kiamba and Maitum in Sarangani; Santo Niño, T’boli, Norala, Surallah and Tupi in South Cotabato, and Isulan in Sultan Kudarat.
Phivolcs said the quake was not expected to cause damage to property but it may generate aftershocks.
The temblor prompted the provincial government to suspend classes and work in government offices.
