MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government has partnered with SM Cares in mobilizing more mothers to donate breastmilk for vulnerable infants in need.
As part of the celebration of Women’s Month, the QC Human Milk Bank last week held a mass milk-letting drive at SM Fairview to expand the city’s milk donation network.
“Strengthening our referral network allows us to reach more mothers – and more importantly, more infants who depend on life-saving milk,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement.
“Breastmilk remains the best for babies. But when it’s not available, we make sure every child still receives the nutrition they need to grow healthy,” Belmonte added.
The initiative brought together lactating mothers, mallgoers and regular donors to promote responsible breastfeeding.
The participants also attended expert-led sessions on proper breastfeeding, maternal nutrition and prenatal screening.
“We empower mothers who go above and beyond for their children. In Quezon City, we are committed to ensuring that every infant – regardless of circumstance – has the chance to grow strong and healthy,” Belmonte said.
Last year, the city government partnered with SM Supermalls to establish dedicated milk depots in its malls in Fairview, North EDSA, Novaliches and Sta. Mesa.
These accessible drop-off points make it easier for mothers to donate excess breastmilk and support infants in need.
Data showed that the QC Human Milk Bank dispensed 738,670 milliliters of pasteurized human milk to 496 infant recipients in 2025.
Recipients included infants from other cities in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
