MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government is looking into the reported fees collected from pedestrians passing through the recently opened elevated promenade at the Quezon Memorial Circle.
“The collection of any amount, including the reported P10 allegedly charged to a citizen, is unauthorized and strictly prohibited by the city government,” the local government said yesterday.
City hall also said the security officers assigned in the area are outsourced personnel from a third-party security agency.
The city government said the incident has been reported to the concerned security agency for immediate action.
The local government will conduct its own investigation to ensure accountability of those involved and to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
“Rest assured that we will continue to improve services in public spaces in Quezon City,” city hall said.
Inaugurated last year, the promenade connects the Quezon Memorial Circle and the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife.
It features bicycle ramps for bikers as well as seats and benches for pedestrians. The promenade is part of the city’s commitment to provide more open and green spaces for residents and visitors.
