Fireworks illuminate the Quezon Memorial Shrine during the New Year countdown celebration at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government has recorded zero fatality and a significant drop in the number of fireworks-related injuries during the holiday season.
Data from the local health department showed there were 40 fireworks-related injuries in Quezon City from Dec. 21, 2025 to Jan. 2, 2026.
The figure was lower than the 107 firecracker-related injuries logged during the same period last year.
Twenty-nine cases involved people who were “passively” injured by fireworks. Eleven were injured after directly handling fireworks.
Most cases occurred in the streets, although some were injured in their homes or in other locations.
“Although a few QCitizens sustained injuries due to fireworks, we still consider our campaign and measures against the use of fireworks a success,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement.
“This proves that we can celebrate and welcome the New Year in a safe and peaceful manner.”
In addition to zero fatality, there were also no reported cases of firework ingestion or stray-bullet injuries.
Since 2023, the local government has been implementing an ordinance regulating the use and sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices in the city.
Under the ordinance, the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices are allowed only in designated areas during special occasions such as the New Year.
New Year countdown events were held simultaneously at the Quezon Memorial Circle, Novaliches Park and Eastwood to welcome 2026.
