MADDELA, Quirino, Philippines — The provincial government of Quirino has suspended the operation of a piggery in this town for alleged violation of environmental regulations.
The suspension stemmed from a complaint filed by residents of Barangay Villa Hermoza Sur, who said the Golda Farm emits stench and its workers do not dispose of the garbage properly.
Local officials said the piggery has been operating since 2012 allegedly without business, sanitation and zoning permits.
Anti-corruption watchdog IpaBitag Mo Inc. said that a 2023 resolution relocating the farm has not been enforced. The operator reportedly continued to rely on an environmental compliance certificate issued in 2017.
The farm owner assured authorities that she would secure all required permits and clearances as well as upgrade the farm’s waste management system before seeking to resume operation.
