'Asia's Songbird' Regine Velasquez

ABS-CBN/Released

MANILA, Philippines — It appears even Asia's Songbird can't fly forever.

Singer-host Regine Velasquez confirmed prior statements that her upcoming concert marking her 40th year in the entertainment industry would be her last concert on a massive scale.

The singer recently shared on social media a poster for the show aptly named "Finale."

"The final Major Solo Concert," Regine wrote in her caption, also sharing two concert dates — October 17 and 18 — at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Regine did previously hint at retiring one day but assured that other projects were still in the pipeline, though nothing on a large scale like this milestone concert.

Friends and peers who expressed support in the comments section include Iza Calzado, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Julie Anne San Jose, Darren Espanto, Angeline Quinto, Rajo Laurel, Jona Viray, Karen Davila, Klarisse de Guzman, Lara Maigue, and Regine's husband Ogie Alcasid.

"Sorry but I'm already starting my standing ovation for this queen," said Gary Valenciano, who has also stepped back from major solo shows. "Wow…this hit me deeply. We love you Regine."

Regine rose to fame in the 1980s after winning the talent competition shows "Ang Bagong Kampeon" and the Asia Pacific Singing Contest, releasing her debut single (as Chona) and album (as Regine) in between victories.

Since then she has released tens of albums and nearly a hundred singles to make her one of the Philippines' biggest-selling artists, and has even dabbled in acting, presenting, and hosting.

The singer has received several lifetime achievement honors from the likes of the Awit Awards and the Star Awards. Last March she was hailed as Woman of the Year by Billboard Philippines.
