ILOILO CITY — Col. Bayani Razalan has been officially relieved as director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), just a day before the May 12 midterm elections.

The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) confirmed that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) central office approved its request to reassign Razalan. The relief order, dated May 10, 2025, took effect Sunday.

PRO-6 spokesman LtCol. Arnel Solis said Razalan will be temporarily assigned to the regional headquarters, while Col. Rolando Bulalacao, chief regional staff of PRO-6, will serve as the concurrent officer in charge of the IPPO.

The Philippine National Police ordered Razalan's relief in late April, but the implementation was delayed pending Comelec clearance due to the election period.

PRO-6 director BGen. Jack Wanky has assured the public that Razalan's reassignment will not disrupt security operations in Iloilo province.

Wanky added that Razalan's new post is as officer in charge of the Regional Personnel and Records Management Division, replacing Col. Winston de Belen who is facing an administrative investigation.

The relief comes amid reports that Razalan drew the ire of a congressman following an incident during a government payout event in Passi City on April 14, though Razalan has denied prior knowledge of any tension at the event.

Passi City is under Iloilo's 4th congressional district, where incumbent congressman Ferjenel "Dr. Ferj" Biron is seeking reelection. He is run-ning against retired police major Charlie Sustento Jr.
