MANILA, Philippines—Philippine-side Strong Group Athletics added two more key cogs to its lineup for the upcoming William Jones Cup.
After tapping Boban Marjanovic, the squad has also added Puerto Rican swingman Isaiah Piñeiro and Filipino-American Remy Martin for its three-peat bid in Taiwan.
“[Remy] is a proven winner, a champion, and someone we believe embodies the standard we’re striving for as we continue to represent the Philippines on the international stage,” said SGA President Jacob Lao.
Strong Group-Pilipinas coach Charles Tiu, meanwhile, is happy to have Piñeiro in the squad as he fills in the shoes of former import Andre Roberson.
“We wanted another (Andre) Roberson-type player—someone who can do everything for us,” said Tiu.
“He’s a glue guy who can shoot, play in the post, and defend. He’s been a fixture on the national team, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he brings to our team,” he added.
Joining Piñeiro, Martin and Marjanovic in the Jones Cup are Strong Group-Pilipinas mainstays Dave Ildefonso, DJ Fenner, Angelo Kouame, Tajuan Agee, Allen Liwag, and Titing Manalili.
The team will also have newcomers Matthew Wright, William Navarro, and Shaun Ildefonso.
The Jones Cup will be held from August 8 to 23 at Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City.
