Renowned Inquirer sports journalist Recah Trinidad dies at 83

MANILA, Philippines — Renowned author and Inquirer columnist Recah Trinidad passed away at the age of 83 on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Recah’s passing was announced by his daughter Nice in a Facebook post. She said he died around 6 a.m.

“After suffering a heart attack in June, Dad bravely fought for the past few months and finally found his rest. He passed peacefully in his sleep, free from pain and suffering,” his daughter said.

Nice also said she finds comfort in “knowing [her] Dad is now reunited with his beloved eldest son, Kuya Chino Trinidad.”

Chino passed away at the age of 56 in July 2024 due to cardiac arrest.

Recah wrote his columns for the Philippine Daily Inquirer under “Bare Eye” and was the author of the historical novel “Tales from My Lost River,” launched in May 2013. The novel drew inspiration from his youth along the Pasig River.

Recah is survived by his wife, Fe; sons Paolo and Baste; and six grandchildren.

His daughter said that details of the wake will be shared in the following days. /mcm
