MANILA, Philippines — Repower Energy Development Corp. (REDC) continues to build momentum in the hydropower space, highlighted by its recent acquisition of a P6.3-billion plant in Bukidnon.

This follows REDC’s buyout of a 95-percent equity stake in Maramag Hydropower Corp. (MHC), the developer of the 25-megawatt (MW) Pulangi 4 hydropower project.

The deal covers the purchase of 32.19 million common shares of MHC, valued at P32.19 million.

“Our acquisition of MHC’s Pulangi project marks our second investment in the area and a significant step in REDC’s mission to expand clean, renewable and indigenous hydropower for Mindanao,” REDC president Eric Roxas said.

The MHC plant will tap into the Pulangi River, the same river system that powers REDC’s new 18.2-MW run-of-river hydro facility straddling Valencia City and the San Fernando municipality in Bukidnon.

REDC, through Cabanglasan Hydropower Corp., recently started the testing and commissioning of the 18.2-MW plant, the company’s 9th operating hydro facility and its first in Mindanao.

With a capital investment of around P4 billion, the hydro plant is projected to generate about 130 gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually, enough to power over 54,000 homes.

“Harnessing the Pulangi River’s potential through responsible hydropower development allows us to deliver dependable energy generation while creating meaningful opportunities for the communities of Bukidnon,” Roxas said.

Currently, REDC is advancing the construction of the 4.5-MW Piapi hydropower project in Quezon, with commercial operation targeted by the end of 2027.

The renewable energy developer also intends to develop four more hydro projects in the coming months, setting aside a budget of P10.3 billion.
