MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration confirmed on Friday, January 23, that Nikita Chekhov, the Russian vlogger arrested for threatening to spread HIV, has tested negative for the virus and other related illnesses.

According to the bureau, Chekov was tested in the morning of January 22 by government medical personnel, who confirmed that he was nonreactive for HIV.

“He was likewise tested for other related illnesses, all of which yielded negative results,” Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado said.

“He now faces deportation charges for undesirability, as his social media posts caused fear and panic among the public,” Viado said. 

Chekhov, 21, was arrested on January 21 inside a condominium building in Quezon City.

This is due to his videos filmed at Bonifacio High Street in Taguig, claiming he intended to spread HIV during his stay in the country.

Immigration officials said the content triggered widespread alarm online, prompting authorities to act.
