PRESS RELEASE: 'Sa Likod ng Tsapa' is set to premiere in Poland and South Africa this July

The following is a press release from Newsline Philippines.

In a landmark collaboration that bridges cinematic storytelling and social transformation, the Women and Children’s Desk of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is set to receive critical support through a partnership with POP Movie House, Newsline Philippines, and the DCPO Advisory Group for Police Transformation and Development.

The agreement, formally signed on May 28 in Davao City, ensures that part of the proceeds from the docudrama Sa Likod ng Tsapa will fund legal aid, psychological services, and emergency response efforts for vulnerable sectors, particularly women and children affected by violence.

“We believe in using the power of cinema to create real-world change,” said Editha Z. Caduaya, executive producer of the film and CEO of Newsline Philippines. “This partnership allows us to give back to the very people our film seeks to represent — the voiceless, the vulnerable, and the victims.”

Sa Likod ng Tsapa follows the gripping and controversial story of Police Colonel Hansel Marantan, whose real-life journey as a police intelligence officer is marked by heroism, scrutiny, and personal sacrifice. Now recognized as a person with disability (PWD) due to severe injuries sustained during anti-crime operations, Marantan shared his motivation to give back:

“I am one of them now,” he said. “I have 52 metal screws, four titanium implants, artificial knuckles, and I live with hearing loss. It’s my turn to give back.”

Marantan further announced that a portion of his earnings from the film will be donated to organizations that support fellow PWDs.

Roy Geonson, president of the DCPO Advisory Board, lauded the initiative.

“This film reflects the deep sacrifices made by our police force. The generosity of Ms. Caduaya and Col. Marantan brings meaning to our work in protecting and rehabilitating victims of violence.”

Set to premiere in Poland and South Africa this July, the international screening of Sa Likod ng Tsapa carries a bold message: justice does not end when the credits roll — it begins when society chooses to act.
