MANILA, Philippines — Singer-songwriter Sam Smith is reportedly engaged to designer Christian Cowan after over three years together.

The couple attended the 2026 Met Gala, where they were discussing their engagement.

"From what I understand, it was a private engagement. They are over the moon, and from what I hear, so in love!" one source told entertainment outlet Page Six, a news confirmed by a second source.

The singer was even spotted wearing an engagement ring with a yellow diamond said to be from Cartier.

Smith posted about their Met Gala outfit on Instagram by quoting Cowan and the latter's love for Russian-born French artist and designer Erté, the inspiration for Smith's look.

"I love the way he brought costume art to the world through his visionary illustrations. The infamous 1920's opulence and craft. 255,000 individual crystals and beads. 2,000 hours of artisanal hand sewing. This look is a love letter to the king of fashion illustration, and to my love, Sam."

Smith and Link were first linked in December 2022 when both watched former US President Joe Biden sign the Respect for Marriage Act — which ensures federal recognition of same-sex and interracial marriages — into law at the White House.

The Grammy- and Oscar-winning singer came out as gay in 2014 then as non-binary three years later. They made their red carpet debut at the 2024 Met Gala and also attended the next edition together.

Smith is best known for their songs "Stay With Me," "I'm Not the Only One," "Lay Me Down," "Unholy," "Money On My Mind," "Too Good at Goodbyes," "Dancing with a Stranger," "How Do You Sleep?," and "Writing's on the Wall."
