MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday night, December 18, served a warrant of arrest on super contractor Sarah Discaya in connection with the alleged P96.5-million ghost flood control project in Davao Occidental.
Discaya is now under NBI custody and is undergoing standard arrest procedures, including the reading of her Miranda rights and a mandatory physical examination, according to One News.
It was President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. who confirmed in a video address that a warrant of arrest has been served against Discaya over charges linked to the anomalous flood control project.
Marcos also said the warrant covers Discaya and nine other individuals, who are facing graft and malversation charges. The offenses are non-bailable, he added.
More arrests likely. In the same statement, the president said eight officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways have expressed their intent to surrender in connection with the case.
Authorities have yet to release further details on the identities of the other accused and the timeline for the surrender of the DPWH officials.
Marcos earlier vowed that arrests would take place ahead of Christmas Day as his administration tries to stem a massive corruption scandal over non-existent and substandard infrastructure projects.
