MANILA, Philippines — Employees of the Supreme Court (SC) will return to the five-day on-site workweek a month after it implemented four days on-site and one day work-from-home schedule.
In a notice issued last April 29, the high tribunal unanimously decided to “lift the implementation of the work-from-home arrangement in the Supreme Court.”
It would “revert to the standard five-day workweek with 100 percent on-site reporting, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., effective May 2026.”
The SC also ordered “the continued implementation of the energy conservation measures that have already been implemented,” as well as “allowing the rendition of overtime services on a case-to-case basis as may be authorized by the Chief Justice.”
Three associate justices did not take part in the resolution contained in the April 29 en banc notice as Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando was “on leave,” while Associate Justices Amy Lazaro-Javier and Jhosep Lopez were “on official business.”
Beginning March 9, the SC, as well as the Court of Appeals and first and second-level courts, observed a four-day on-site and one-day work-from-home arrangement as part of the national government’s efforts to conserve energy.
However, exempted from this measure were essential offices in the SC, as well as the Court of Tax Appeals and the Sandiganbayan that enforced a five-day on-site work schedule.
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice reported it saved 33 percent of the usual power usage at its main office in Manila for a month after implementing its hybrid work setup from Feb. 26 to March 26, 2026.
“From 26 February to 26 March 2026, the DOJ’s power usage decreased to 72,000 kWh from 108,000 kWh recorded in the prior period of 26 January to 26 February 2026, delivering 33 percent actual savings,” the agency said.
