Lethal PBA snipers are set to trade places as TNT finally ships disgruntled former Finals MVP Mikey Williams to Converge for Gilas Pilipinas standout Jordan Heading
MANILA, Philippines – TNT is getting its grand slam boost at the expense of its long-inactive asset.
After an 18-month-long negotiation standstill, the Tropang 5G finally traded the rights for Mikey Williams to the Converge FiberXers for former Gilas guard Jordan Heading.
The trade was pending approval by the PBA Commissioner’s Office on Wednesday, May 28.
According to sources, Williams returned to Manila on Tuesday night, May 27, as the two squads negotiated the deal.
Williams, a two-time PBA Finals MVP, has not played with TNT since the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup, where he led the then-Tropang Giga to the title.
Despite missing Williams, TNT has won the Governors’ Cup and Commissioner’s Cup in Season 49, making it one title away from notching a rare PBA grand slam.
Williams last played for a Philippine team in January for Strong Group Athletics in the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship, where he struggled to find his rhythm for most of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Heading, 29, has yet to play in the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup due to back spasms. Without one of its best players, Converge has been on a pedestrian campaign in the tournament, recording just five wins in nine games.
However, the sharpshooting guard is expected to play for the Tropang 5G this conference as they look to boost their grand slam bid, a feat that only five other franchises have done in the history of the PBA.
TNT has been in dire need of a scoring guard since missing the services of Jayson Castro and Rey Nambatac due to injuries. The team has been using Simon Enciso as its lead guard for the majority of the All-Filipino Cup.
In November 2024, the FiberXers snagged Heading from Terrafirma, the team that drafted him in a special Gilas draft in 2022, for Aljun Melecio, Keith Zaldivar, and a 2025 Converge first-round pick.
He has only played in one conference for Converge, averaging 17.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists, while shooting 38.8% from three-point range in 15 total games in the Commissioner’s Cup.
TNT is currently in the middle of the standings with a 4-3 slate.
The Tropang 5G are set to face the NorthPort Batang Pier, whose franchise traded for Calvin Abueva, on Friday, May 30. – Rappler.com
