COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Another shabu peddler reportedly linked to few remaining members of the defunct Dawlah Islamiya fell in an entrapment operation in Barangay Alamada in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte on Friday, December 26.

Municipal and barangay officials, among them traditional Moro datus, who helped plot the entrapment operation confirmed to reporters on Saturday that the 27-year-old suspect, Jassim Badar Alkadra, is now detained, awaiting prosecution for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Ranking officials of intelligence units under the Army’s 6th Infantry Division and the police in the adjoining Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte, both in the Bangsamoro region, told reporters that Alkadra is in their lists of illegal drug traffickers sharing fractions of their earnings to remaining members of the Dawlah Islamiya who have not availed yet of 6th ID’s reconciliation program for violent religious extremists.

Major Gen. Jaysen De Guzman, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, said the suspect yielded peacefully when he sensed he had sold 100 grams of shabu, costing P680,000, to plainclothes policemen during a tradeoff at one area in Barangay Alamada, an operation premised on tips by local executives and Muslim religious leaders about his large-scale peddling of shabu and Marijuana in Sultan Kudarat and in nearby towns.

The entrapment operation involved municipal and barangay officials, combined agents from the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit-Regional Special Operations Group, the Sultan Kudarat Municipal Police Station, the Maguindanao del Norte Provincial Police Office and a team from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 14-A, all under PRO-BAR.

De Guzman said they are thankful to the local officials and Moro community leaders who supported the entrapment operation that led to the arrest of the suspect and confiscation from him of P680,000 worth of shabu and his Yamaha NMax motorcycle that he used in delivering his illegal merchandise to contacts in Sultan Kudarat and in nearby towns in Maguindanao del Norte.

Ranking officials of Army units in Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur told reporters that Alkadra is the 23rd shabu trafficker linked to the Dawlah Islamiya and its ally, the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, arrested in separate entrapment operations by policemen and agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao since 2021.

Leaders of both groups who have returned to the fold of law have confessed, before reporters and local executives, their having provided sanctuary to shabu and marijuana dealers in their enclaves in exchange for money, before each of them pledge allegiance to the government in surrender rites facilitated in the past five years by units of the 6th ID as prelude to their reintegration into mainstream society via a peacebuilding program of the division and agencies of the BARMM government.
