MANILA, Philippines — Traffic congestion in Metro Manila will be reduced by the four-day workweek arrangement, San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora said on Tuesday.

“When I found out that Quezon City would implement work-from-home (arrangement) on Mondays, I said, ‘That’s perfect,’” Zamora, president of the Metro Manila Council, told One News.

“Quezon City is very big compared to other cities. That somehow spreads the number of vehicles on the road on Mondays and Fridays,” Zamora noted.

Adopting the compressed work schedule has been easy for workers in San Juan since it was implemented during the pandemic, Zamora said.

Most cities in Metro Manila are enforcing a shorter workweek with extended office hours as part of energy-saving protocols amid soaring fuel prices due to the Middle East war.

In Muntinlupa, Mayor Ruffy Biazon told city hall employees to scale back non-essential activities, including out-of-town trips.

Biazon signed Executive Order 7, creating a special task force to monitor fuel stocks, compliance with price ceiling protocols and the enforcement of energy conservation measures.
