MANILA, Philippines — The Sy family’s SM Group has further strengthened its position as a leader in retail and sustainability, bagging regional recognitions for leadership and industry excellence.

SM Supermalls president Steven Tan was named one of Asia’s Most Inspiring Executives at the prestigious Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability (ACES) Awards.

The award was given in recognition of Tan’s visionary leadership, transformative strategies and steadfast commitment to elevating customer experiences across SM malls nationwide.

“This award is a celebration of our people who work tirelessly to ensure that SM is not only a place for shopping, dining and entertainment but also a platform for positive change,” Tan said.

“I am humbled to be named one of Asia’s Most Inspiring Executives, and I share this recognition with every SM employee who brings passion and purpose to their work every day,” he said.

SM Supermalls also secured two major corporate citations  — Industry Champion of the Year and Top Sustainability Advocates in Asia — in line with the company’s leadership in creating innovative and future-ready mall experiences rooted in responsible and sustainable development.

“We are deeply honored to receive these recognitions. At SM Supermalls, we believe that doing good is good business,” Tan said.

“Being named Industry Champion of the Year and one of Asia’s Top Sustainability Advocates inspires us to continue creating meaningful impact in the communities we serve. Sustainability is our way of life, and we will keep pushing boundaries to build greener, smarter and more resilient spaces for generations to come,” he said.

The ACES Awards is one of Asia’s most respected platforms, recognizing leadership excellence and sustainability.

Meanwhile, SM Investments, the parent company of the SM Group, has also been awarded the Silver Rank by the Asia Sustainability Reporting Rating (ASRRAT) for its 2024 sustainability report, marking the company’s fourth recognition for excellence in sustainability disclosure.

ASRRAT is a regional ratings system pioneered by the National Center for Sustainability Reporting, the first independent organization to promote and develop sustainability reporting in Indonesia.

“Guided by our responsibility to the communities we serve, we continue to embed sustainability into every part of our business. This recognition encourages us to keep strengthening our climate resilience, transparency and long-term value creation for all our stakeholders,” SM Investments president and CEO Frederic DyBuncio said.
