Rep. Philip Acop (Antipolo 2nd District) proclaimed by election officers of Antipolo, Rizal on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
Commission on Elections / Released
MANILA, Philippines — The son of the late Antipolo 2nd District Romeo Acop has been elected as the district’s new representative.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Sunday, March 15, declared Philip Acop as the newly-elected representative of Antipolo 2nd District after the district held special elections following the death of the elder Acop.
The Comelec said that Philip bagged a total of 60,051 votes to win the House seat.
The House seat was sought by a total of six candidates after the withdrawal of LJ Sumulong.
The ballot featured the younger Acop, Dandin Infante, Reden Llaga, Ma. Trinidad Galang, Nathaniel Lobigas and Irvin Paulo Tapales.
To fill the House seat left vacant by the passing of the elder Acop last December, the Comelec announced a special election for the district this January.
Romeo Acop, 78, died on Dec. 20, 2025, due to a heart attack.
It could be recalled that Acop first raised alarms over "Mary Grace Piattos" and other suspicious names found on acknowledgment receipts on the confidential funds of Vice President Sara Duterte.
