First look of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft
Prime Video
MANILA, Philippines — Production on Prime Video's series adaptation of "Tomb Raider" is now underway with "Game of Thrones" and "X-Men" star Sophie Turner playing Lara Croft.
Amazon MGM Studios announced the beginning of shooting by releasing a photo of Turner as the famous archaeologist and adventurer from the video game franchise of the same name, first launched in 1996.
Turner is seen donning Croft's iconic outfit of a tank top, shorts, a bag pack, sunglasses, and guns strapped at her thighs. The actress later posted the image on her social media accounts.
Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs lead the supporting cast that also includes Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein.
"Fleabag" creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge helms the project as creator and writer, with Chad Hodge joining her as fellow executive producer and showrunner.
Jonathan Van Tulleken, who previously directed episodes of "Shogun" and "Dope Thief," will also executive producer on top of directing.
Co-producing with Amazon MGM Studios on the company end are Story Kitchen and the video games' owner Crystal Dynamics.
Prime Video took charge of a "Tomb Raider" series adaptation in May 2024 and tapped Turner later that year.
Croft was previously portrayed in films by Academy Award winners Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
On the small screen, the character has been voiced in animation by Minnie Driver and Hayley Atwell, the latter just last year for "Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft" on Netflix.
