Spikers’ Turf: New team Clearskiiin UV Smashers aim to make mark

MANILA, Philippines–Clearskiiin UV Smashers is the newest team joining the Spikers’ Turf, giving players without clubs another opportunity to compete and earn through volleyball.

Savouge coach and owner Sydney Calderon unveiled her second men’s volleyball team Friday at Seda Bonifacio Global City ahead of the 2026 Invitational Conference.

“The Clearskiiin UV Smashers started with a really simple but meaningful reason. We wanted to create an opportunity for players who suddenly found themselves without a team. A place for them to continue doing what they love, continue competing, and at the same time have a source of income through volleyball,” said Calderon.

“For me, it’s such a waste to see talented players lose their opportunities. There are so many great players who still want to play, but sometimes they lose their team or simply don’t have the chance to continue. That’s why my partner, Luis Calderon, and I decided to build this team—to give these players another opportunity, a platform, and a chance to prove themselves.”

Co-captains Louis Gamban and JM Ronquillo lead the expansion team.

Clearskiiin also parades veterans Edward Camposano, Jay Rack dela Noche, Charlee Magpayo, JM Paglaon, Kim Dayandante, Nas Gwaza and Vince Abrot.

Rick Adao, KC Andrade, Renzel Antonio, Jester Bornel, Bhim Diones, Angelo Gayud and Robert Flores complete the roster.

Filipino-American coach Joe Bangit will make his Spikers’ Turf debut, with team manager Dexter Clamor, the former multi-titled coach of the defunct Cignal, joining him.

“I’ve been coaching for over 14 years in the United States and one thing I’ve learned is that talent can bring players together but talent alone doesn’t build a team. Standards too. From day one, our standard has been simple, show up, work, compete, and hold each other accountable,” said Bangit.

Bangit, the father of La Salle setter NJ, said the team will not just participate but compete for contention when the tournament opens in Cebu on October 10 as the league welcomes its 10th anniversary.

Bangit’s coaching staff is composed of Sandy Montero, Peter Torres, John Pagtalunan, Kenneth Hernandez, and Pawix Agir.

Sports Vision Management Group Inc. president Ricky Palou welcomed their newest squad.

“This is your second team, you have Savouge and now you have Clearskiiin. We welcome you to the Spikers’ Turf. We’re more than happy to have you join us again. I hope you will do your best, show everybody your skills and hopefully soon you win a championship,” said Palou.
