Spotify is introducing its "Reserved" experience where the platform will identify an artist's most dedicated fans and hold tour tickets for them when the said artist goes on tour.

MANILA, Philippines — Audio streaming platform Spotify is launching a feature to ensure that loyal fans are able to obtain tickets to concerts of their favorite artists.

A global issue for touring artists is that fans find difficulty to purchase tickets to shows, compounded by revelations that only casual observers or listeners end up attending — or worse tickets were hoarded by scalpers.

As such Spotify is introducing its "Reserved" experience where the platform will identify an artist's most dedicated fans and hold tour tickets for them when the said artist goes on tour.

Fans will be identified based on their streams, shares and other Spotify activity, as well as the activity of Premium users to ensure they are not bot accounts.

These reserved tickets will be released to selected fans during a given window, around 24 hours, for purchasing on a ticketing partner's platform just before regular tickets are sold to the general public.

The feature done in partnership with Live Nation will be available first to eligible Spotify Premium subscribers, those at least 18 years old, in the United States then soon in other international markets.

"You show up for the artist, Spotify shows up for you," said the platform. "No added fees from Spotify, and more of an artist's truest fans will end up in the crowd where it matters most."

Availability will vary by artist, tour, and location. Apart from engagement with an artist on the platform, eligibility will also be based on where users are located so preferred location should be enabled on the platform's Live Events Feed and notifications turned on.

Tours not heading to a fan's location may not be offered to these users. But in the event they are, users can purchase tickets to any show on the tour and they will choose the date, location, and seats at checkout.

"At its heart, 'Reserved' is simple: tickets saved for real fans to purchase," the platform also said. "We're building this to give something back to the fans who support artists the most — and because when artists and fans win, Spotify does, too."
