THE Global AI Council Philippines hosted the inaugural State of the Nation in AI (Sonai) 2025 on Jan. 30 at the GSIS Theater, gathering government leaders, private sector executives, and AI experts to assess AI's role in national development. Sonai 2025 kicks off a broader initiative, including an AI report and directory.

The event featured high-level discussions on AI's potential to drive innovation, economic growth, and digital transformation.

The Government Agency Viewpoints panel included DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy and DoST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr., who outlined the government's vision for AI. Uy reaffirmed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to harness AI for governance, connectivity, and cybersecurity. Solidum detailed a P2.6 billion investment in AI-driven projects across industries, health care, education, mobility, and disaster risk reduction, positioning the Philippines as Asean's AI Innovation Hub by 2040.

Brian Poe Llamanzares, chairman of the Global AI Council Philippines, emphasized the need for sustained collaboration: "Sonai 2025 is not just for the council but for the country." He led attendees in a Pledge of Support for AI growth and ethical innovation.

Sonai 2025 was supported by GCash, AWS, UnionBank, Aboitiz Equity Ventures, and the Asian Development Bank as a neutral content partner, reinforcing the country's AI-driven future. advancement
