CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — A 24-year-old student died after his motorcycle hit a power post in this city on Thursday.

Roldan Torremocha was traveling in Barangay Lapasan when a flock of birds descended along the highway to feed on grains spilled from a truck.

Traffic investigator S/Sgt. Robert Tumapon said the victim tried to avoid hitting the birds, causing his motorcycle to swerve and hit the post.

The impact threw Torremocha off the motorcycle. Responding police officers and barangay officials rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
