'Subukan mo': Ryan Agoncillo on Judy Ann Santos choosing her leading men

MANILA, Philippines — Ryan Agoncillo trusts his wife and fellow actor Judy Ann Santos to make her own decisions at work, including her choice of leading men.

The celebrity couple was the guest on the pilot of Matteo Guidicelli's new talk show, "Matter G Primetime," and halfway through the episode they were asked who between them gets jealous more easily.

Matteo followed up by asking if Judy Ann would allow Ryan to have another woman as a leading lady in a movie and the actress immediately answered in the affirmative.

Judy Ann was asked the same question but Ryan quipped, "Subukan niya," eliciting laughter from the celebrity couple. 

Ryan explained that his quip, "Subukan mo," was his response for everything. He added by addressing wife, "Gawin mo, saka na natin pag-awayan."

Judy Ann clarified that Ryan would tell her "go ahead," not "subukan mo," leading to Ryan to reiterate that the latter statement was the "inner monologue in his head."

"I guess that's the message I send her. On the surface... these are quality women and they know what they're doing," Ryan explained further. "It's always been the way we were from the beginning, I'd be like 'Sige, tignan ko kung san ka pupunta. Susunod naman ako eh, kung hindi ako sumunod alam mo na 'yung sagot.'"

The actor expounded that his "Subukan mo" means "let the woman decide" and repeated letting any fights happen afterwards.

Ryan believes he and Judy Ann have lasted so long together because people underestimate his wife's capability on making her own decisions.

"These decisions, siyempre if it works for me, hindi na ako aangal o makikipag-away," Ryan said. "But [if it doesn't work], she will consult me and I will be, 'Sige, gawin mo, saka na natin pag-awayan.'"
