SUN Life Financial-Philippines Foundation Inc. (Sun Life Foundation) championed environmental sustainability with coastal cleanups in part-nership with the Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (Assist).
Over 170 Sun Life volunteers collected more than 400 sacks of waste, totaling 2.264 metric tons, at Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP) and Barangay San Rafael, Noveleta, Cavite.
Marine coastal ecosystems, like LPPWP — one of Metro Manila's few remaining mangrove forests — serve as vital habitats for endemic and mi-gratory birds.
However, pollution threatens these ecosystems, endangering wildlife, livelihoods and public health. Regular coastal cleanups help mitigate these risks.
As the philanthropic arm of Sun Life Philippines, the country's oldest life insurance company, the Sun Life Foundation organizes numerous volunteer initiatives annually, engaging leaders, employees and advisors.

"Volunteerism is a key aspect of Sun Life's culture," said Valerie Pama, Sun Life Philippines chief asset management officer, who joined the cleanup. "It is always uplifting to be part of initiatives that help build a brighter future for our fellow Filipinos."
