Veteran actress and "Superstar" Nora Aunor has passed away at the age of 71.
The news of the film icon's death was confirmed by her son, Ian De Leon, in a social media post. Along with a photo of his mother, Ian wrote in his Facebook post, "With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved mother, Nora C. Villamayor “Nora Aunor” who left us on today April 16, 2025 at the age of 71.
"She was the heart of our family -- a source of unconditional love, strength, and warmth. Her kindness, wisdom, and beautiful spirit touched everyone who knew her. She will be missed beyond words and remembered forever.
"Details to be announced tomorrow," he wrote.
In 2022, Malacanang declared the veteran star and seven other prominent Philippine culture and arts figures as the Philippines' National Artists. Nora was named National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, along with screenwriter and novelist Ricky Lee and the late director Marilou Diaz-Abaya.
Nora Aunor is best known for her outstanding and award-winning performance in the critically acclaimed movie, Himala.
Nora last starred in the film Mananambal with Sparkle actress Bianca Umali. On television, she was last seen on GMA Afternoon Prime series Lilet Matias: Attorney-at-Law.
