TACLOBAN CITY — The Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) of Tacloban is fully supporting the Department of Social Welfare and Develop-ment's (DSWD) initiative to create a unified ID system for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
This new system aims to prevent the use of fake IDs, which have been hurting small businesses and restaurants, and to stop the abuse of privileges and benefits.
In a media briefing conducted on Thursday at Tacloban City Hall, PDAO head Jose Juvy Alday said that while there have been no reported incidents of fake ID in the city, he supports the campaign to prevent it.
"I fully support the action of the DSWD and the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) to eradicate fake PWD IDs," Alday told The Manila Times.
"We are strict here in Tacloban in terms of issuing and renewing the IDs," he added.

The NCDA, an affiliated agency of the DSWD, previously announced that the Unified ID system for PWDs will be carried out across the country in July.
The DSWD and NCDA will work together on the development of a unified ID system for PWDs in partnership with local government units (LGUs) via their respective PDAOs.
To prevent fraud, the unified ID system will include both a physical ID and a digital ID that includes the PWD's biometrics.
RFID-enabled PVC cards with high-security features designed for offline use will serve as the physical ID.
The digital ID will be available through a mobile app or online site, including features like QR codes for instant authentica-tion.
The PDAOs will continue to handle the application, verification, and approval procedure, and the DSWD will serve as the primary authority in issuing the unified identification card.
