MANILA, Philippines — Two crewmembers were injured when a fire broke out on a motor tanker in Calaca, Batangas on Wednesday night, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
The PCG said the fire started at the engine room of the M/T KR Gindara, which was docked at the wharf of the Balayan Distillery Inc. in Barangay Talisay.
One of the injured crewmembers was confined at the Metro Lemery Medical Center, while the other was brought to the Metro Calaca Hospital, but opted to be discharged against doctor’s advice.
The Gindara, which had 22 crewmembers, was reportedly carrying sugarcane syrup or molasses.
The PCG deployed its BRP Malapascua to assist in the response efforts.
Probers have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
